The benefits of using solar panel technology with pools

Learn all about how solar panel technology contributes to saving you time and money this year.

Solar panel technology is something that has evolved massively over the past decade to reduce the use of fossil fuels and harmful by-products. They’re able to be used in several ways in both the leisure industry and for pools, such as solar panel heat pumps and solar panel pool covers; providing more efficient ways to generate and retain heat.

Keep reading to learn why switching to solar panels is the best option for a domestic or commercial pool, both financially and environmentally.

How do solar panels work?

Solar panels are built up of photovoltaic (PV) cells that are sensitive to light. When exposed to light, they absorb this and are then able to generate electrons that start a direct current (DC) in a circuit, therefore powering a device.

Contrary to popular belief, solar-powered systems will also generate electricity/heat in overcast weather, as clouds will not affect thermal energy. By having a solar-power heat pump or pool cover, you remove the need for fossil fuel-powered systems also.

What are the benefits of solar panel pool covers?

Solar-powered systems are perfect for outdoors- especially south-facing pools, where the sun will be facing the area for the longest (and of course, free of any shade or obstructing objects).

When using a solar power pool cover, not only will you gain free heat during the day, but the cover will also act as a barrier at night. By having this in place, there will be lower levels of dispersal, helping to preserve this heat and reduce the amount lost into the surrounding air. It also prevents pool chemicals from evaporating, therefore reducing time and costs spent re-balancing levels.

Solar energy doesn’t rely on suppliers either, so you’ll never have to worry about power outages or rising costs with energy crises. In fact, there are no additional costs at all past the installations, so it’s quite easy for you to recoup the costs quickly from your initial investment.
