With the temperature starting to rise again, it’ll soon be the optimal time for reopening your swimming pool for Spring. This article will cover all the necessary steps to ensure that your pool is in the best condition possible when you get back into the water. Discover how we at Go Aqua can make the process easier for you.
Seek a Professional Check-up
The most important things to check when reopening your pool are that it is filled, hygienic, clean and safe. During Winter, it is very common for pipes and parts to crack with the freezing water, so be sure to assess any damage and fix or replace these if needed. Professional check-ups are the easiest way to verify everything is working correctly and identify any damages that have occurred, so consider calling in an expert to take a look for you.
We at Go Aqua offer around-the-clock care for any pool assistance needed, whether that’s repairs, servicing, or just a general check-up of your swimming pool. Get in touch to book a visit or view our services here.
Refilling Your Pool
If you drained your pool over Winter, you can fill your pool back to the correct level once you have carried out any necessary maintenance. Make sure to reconnect any equipment, such as your heater, pump and filter, then connect your hose to raise your water levels. Even if you did not drain your swimming pool last season, check your water levels to account for any possible loss. Once this is all done, turn on the system to double-check for leaks or anything that seems slightly unusual.
If you do happen to have a leak, then don’t worry. We attend callouts across the Midlands with competitive prices to get your pool up and running as soon as possible. Click here to see the repairs we can offer.

Cleaning Your Swimming Pool
Once all the chemicals have adjusted, you can start to clean your pool of the remaining debris and dirt. If you haven’t done so already, use a pool skimmer to gather up leaves or bits lying on the surface, then scrub any algae or discolouration from the walls. Set up your pool vacuum to clean the bottom, then check your pool filter to see if the cartridge needs cleaning. If the pressure reaches 10 psi higher than usual then this would indicate it needs a cleaning. Check out this article to understand the process in more detail.
When cleaning your pool, make sure to check for any possible damage that could have been missed. If you haven’t yet already, be sure to clean and remove all the dirt on your pool cover too, especially if this is going to be stored after Winter.
Pool Dosing and Shocking
With water levels and systems all sorted out, you can check your chemical levels. Having the correct level will keep your pool sanitised, clean and algae-free; your pH level should be between 7.2 and 7.6 as an ideal level and chlorine 2.0 to 4.0 ppm. You can use a chlorine shock and a pH increaser/decreaser if your levels are slightly off, followed by algaecide to prevent any build-up.
For any further problems, we can offer you a chemical from our range in stock or source a type to match your need from our trusted supplier network. Click here to find out more about what chemicals we can offer you. Alternatively, if chemicals aren’t your thing, consider installing a dosing system to help maintain your pool dosing with ease.
