Energy-saving Heat Pumps to tackle cost rises

National Cut Your Energy Costs Day is a time dedicated to finding ways of reducing your energy use, so what better way to do this than installing an energy-saving heat pump? If you have been looking to replace or install a new heat pump this Winter, read on for the benefits of them and how our team at Go Aqua can help.

Did you know that today is National Cut Your Energy Costs Day?

Today is all about finding new ways of reducing your energy use, so why not make a change and install an energy-saving heat pump? The recent state of the economy has meant we are all finding ways to reduce our energy bills, so today is the perfect time to talk about the benefits of our energy-saving heat pumps, and their use in swimming pools.

If you have been looking to replace or install a new heat pump this Winter, read on for more information on how they will benefit you, and how our team at Go Aqua can help.

How a Heat Pump Works

Heat pumps work by using a small amount of electricity to power a fan, which then transfers heat from the surrounding air to the water. The system uses less electricity than other pumps as they do not generate the heat themselves, therefore the warmer the surrounding air, the less energy is required.

To show this in terms of efficiency: 1kW of electricity should amount to approximately 4kW of heat energy in a pump, which is 400%, compared to a 90% average for a standard electric heater. This is a cost of (approximately) 4p per kW, whereas an electric heater would cost 19p per kW. While some efficiency may drop when using an air-source heat pump, you will find a ground-source heat pump does not lose much efficiency in any season. Regardless of the source, both provide a much higher level of efficiency than other methods of heating.

Of course, efficiency all depends on the precise model you have, so this figure may vary slightly. All heat pumps installed by Go Aqua will be specifically picked to match your needs. Check out our page on heating to understand the range of heat pumps we offer.

The Renewable Energy Hub has a great guide on heat pumps if you would like to learn more about how they operate.

Heat Pumps Require Little Maintenance

Both air and ground source heat pumps use heat from their environment and therefore are a perfect source of renewable energy. They have a low carbon output too, meaning due to the lack of fossil fuels consumed, there is a reduction in the level of greenhouse gas being emitted into the atmosphere. The current international target, as stated by the Paris Agreement, is to limit global warming to 1.5°C, before eventually meeting net zero in 2050, so energy-efficient systems such as these are highly encouraged and a definite way forward.

Maintaining Heat in your Pool

To maximise your efficiency and keep in the heat, consider installing a pool cover. A pool cover has many uses besides just reducing heat loss, such as stopping debris from falling in the pool and acting as a safety cover, which is essential if you have any pets or young children on the property. They will also be ideal for the summer, to keep UV rays out and keep your water bill as low as possible. In The Swim has a great blog on how to keep the heat in your pool, with more tips and tricks.

Our next blog article aims to help you choose the perfect winter pool cover, so be sure to check back on our blog if you would like to learn more.
